Analysis of Song lyrics - Thunder: 

First, it was heaven
Everything roses and fire
You and I were golden

This suggests how at first their relationship was almost too good to be true because it was ideal like "Heaven". The word "Golden" connotes the idea of their love being successful filled with happiness and desire indicated by "Roses and Fire."

Now it's armageddon
And I woke up like a fighter
Putting up a legion

"Armageddon" is a place where the last between good and evil will be fought. This is significant as it represants how the protaginist has had her last fight with someone possibly in a relationship. It shows how their relationship has changed but along the way it has made her stronger. "Woke up like a fighter" The words "fighter" and "legion" all connote war, maybe to symbolise her own person battle.

The words "Rising" and "Reigning" highlights how her partner might have valued a certain type of status more than he valued her. It is clear from the lyrics that the artist feels left behind "waiting". Also, there is a sense of his dominantion because of the lyrics "Reigning like a King" with "King" indicating how he could have been powerful or demanding towards her.

Song lyrics analysis continued: 

The chorus brings a change within the song where it is clear that within the bad relationship it has brought positive changes to herself. This is important as the juxtaposition of the verses of the positives and the negatives allows for there to be changes in the narrative. Furthermore, the chorus highlights how the artist now supposdly has strength to overcome the relationship and be strong instead of wait behind for someone who has hurt her. "When you left me down, I got stronger". 

 

What is interesting is how the term "Thunder" is also the title of the song, so it is eaily recongnised as important especially that it is repeated throughout. "Thunder" could be metaphorical for her ability to be independant and her new found power within herself. The repition of "Well, I'm coming back with the Thunder" suggests how it is meaningful to her and its importance, the tone of this makes the music more powerful and emotional.

When the next set of verses start it gives an opportunity for the music video to change direction, whilst staying consistent to the narrative. For example, changing location or the costumes of the characters. 

The repition of "scared" represants how she has been fearful and the word "missile" is implying how she feels attacked, damaged or abused. The verses contrast with how Leona felt degraded then this is immediately contrasted with verses of how she has changed as a better person. This is interesting for the audience to see the transitions of their relationship.

Towards the end of the song it is clear how the artist has found a new sense of freedom as if she has been set free. "With an empty heart I am free again."  By using the term "empty" it indicates how she has possibly let go of someone and their relationship has come to an end. "Some have to end". 

Throughout the song there are ambivent emotions as some of the lyrics reflect her emotions when the artist was in a depressed state and so there is a sense of pathos for the audience who wil sympathise with her situation. However, this is juxtaposed with the other parts of the song where she has transitioned from being knocked down to fighting back and finding freedom for herself. In some ways this song is empoweing for women or people in general who may also be experience being in the same situation, and escape a bad relationship like her.
