Christina Perri ft Jason Mraz - Distance:

The song "Distance" is a song by singer song writer Christina Perri along side Jason Mraz. It was released on March 10th, 2010. It is a mid - tempo ballad to which Christina the artist says the song is about, "Loving someone at the wrong time of your life" and "being around that one whom your heart longs for without being able to show your feelings." The song recieved generally favourable reviews from music critics, with praising most their, "emotional vunlerability and engagement" through the chemistry.

Opening shot This is a long shot where the camera slowly pans down from a high angle to a low angle shot. This downwards movement shows us the open space of the room and establishes the location. Already we have a sense of the mise en scene as the room is very light which immediately matches the singer's artist.	High angle shot The location cuts to a high angle view of a spiral staircase. The camera does not stay still but moves around in a round motion to follow the staircase. In addition to this, the papers become an important motif further into the song where they appear in another sequences.	Mise en scene The mise en scene is consistent throughout. In every shot there is light coming through penetrating the open space of the house. The female singer remains in one outfit which as effect makes the overall video seem more laid back in comparison to videos with extravagant dresses and dancing.
Side view The camera is positioned at a low angle where the camera moves simultaneously with the singer's walking but only focuses on her legs.	Medium close up The camera transitions up Christina's body which is effective for showing the audience a clear view of her outfit. It then jumps to a still shot of Christina singing in front of a window which allows sunlight to be shown.	Transitions This is an effective movement where the camera moves from left to right to two different rooms without actually cutting. This directly juxtaposes the two singers whilst the camera movement follows the same pace of the song.
Light Light is shown to be an important element within this music at appears in almost every shot as she moves around the house. This could connote the feeling of being in love which is warmth and comfort. This also sets the tone of the song to be more positive as opposed to a dark setting which is more appropriate for a heart broken love song.	Connecting singers to the song As the song progresses the scenes continue move from the female singer to the male singer. From the start of the song we have a sense of the narrative of the music video.	Composition This is set in another room of the same location. Christina is composed in the middle of the frame with lights surrounding her, through the two lamps either side of her and the light from the window behind her. This effectively highlights her importance.
narrative of the music video The music video starts from Christina moving through the house then the song gets more powerful when Jason starts singing and the papers and photos become an important motif.	Tracking Once Christina opens the door the audience are able to follow her into this new room as it tracks her.	Over the shoulder shot We then have an over the shoulder shot where we stand behind the singer and have the same view of what she is looking at.
External shot This shot is taken from behind the singer and she is the main focus as the landscape infront of her is blurred out. As well as this the side angle allows the audience to see her mouth move when she sings and the light reflected on her face. Having the first external shot towards the end of the song it brings together the narrative, as if she has found a sense of freedom and the light builds a serene atmosphere.	Wall of memories The singer makes it clear that she holds a deep connection to the photos on the wall and she takes a moment as if she is taking in all the memories again. We can see this clearly through the side angle view where we have view of her facial expression with her eyes closed. The wall has been set up interesting with it being covered in a variety of pictures and letters which give it a dynamic look.	Breaking down the walls At this point Christina starts to tear away at the pictures but when this happens a light starts to come through. As if she is breaking down the walls and it is leading to her freedom. She is no longer trying to "keep her distance" which is significant to the song title.
medium long shot Once all the pictures are torn away the camera pans backwards away from Christina and we can see the pictures floating in the air behind her.	Over the shoulder We have an over the shoulder shot of Jason looking out to Christina standing on the other side of the wall. This shows how there is no longer a distance between them or a distance in their love as the wall has been broken down.
