Existing Music Channels:

 

Music television is a type of television programming which focuses predominantly on playing music videos from bands, usually on dedicated television channels. Music TVs may host their own shows charts, award prizes. Examples are 4Music, VIVA MuchMusic, Kerrang! And Kiss.

Kiss: 

This is a music channel from The Box Plus Network, which is also available to watch on sky, Virgin Media but is also linked to channels such as Channel 4, 4Music, Magic and Film4.

The original incarnation of Kiss TV was created by Guy Wingate, who, as an original co-creator of London's Kiss 100. The channel ran for one hour a night on the Mirror Group's L!VE TV cable circuit.  Although the original idea for the channel was proposed in 1993 (three years after Kiss FM launched as a legal station), and then Kiss had once again innovated by becoming the first "Masthead" TV project in the UK.

 

The channel is targeted at young adults featuring latest hits with the playlists Kiss play predominately consisting of mainstream R&B, trance and hip – hop music.

MTV: 

MTV Music is a non-stop music entertainment channel operated by Viacom International Media Networks Europe. It is an American basic cable and satellite television channel owned by MTV Networks Music and Logo group.

The channel itself is head quartered in Los Angeles, CA and launched in August 1, 1981. When MTV started it was mainly aimed at young adults, but as the channel has progressed the demographic is now mainly targeted at adolescents and teenagers.

MTV Networks Europe announced the introduction of a non-stop music channel in January 2011. As the main MTV brand has diverged from its original purpose and increased competition from other music channels and online services, MTV dealt with this issue by launching a new music channel MTV Music. MTV moved up the Sky programme guide from the head of the Music section to the Entertainment guide; in return the MTV Shows broadcast capacity moved down from the Entertainment section to take the place of MTV in the Music guide, becoming MTV Music.

 

MTV (Music Television): Worldwide music television channel founded in the USA in 1981 and owned by Viacom. MTV operates in 136 territories, reaching over 300 million households, and has various versions such as MTV Europe, MTV Mandarin, MTV India and MTV Australia. The company claims that it is sensitive to worldwide cultural and musical diversity. In spite of this claim, critics argue that its prime concern is to deliver use the audiences to advertisers and that it promotes essentially Western consumer values.

MTV started showing primarily music videos and nothing else. Although today MTV now has 7 varies of their channel available. They had transformed their brand into a whole new experience. All music based programmes are now shown on the genre related channel.

Their main base channel “MTV” now bases all showings on reality TV. Shows include:

VIVA:

MTV owned music channel, VIVA, which was first launched in Germany on 1st December in 1993. This channel is also led by Time Warner, Sony Television, EMI music and Polygram records.

Viva  is a music television channel in the United Kingdom and Ireland, owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe. The channel launched on 26 October 2009, replacing TMF

The channel was officially launched on 26 October 2009 by Alexandra Burke, with an exclusive live performance of her single "Bad Boys". The first music video to be shown on Viva was Alphabeat's "The Spell" in The Official UK Chart Show Top 20. The unused hours are now used for teleshopping.

As well as music videos, Viva previously showed programmes from other Viacom channels including MTV, Comedy Central and Channel 5.

4Music:

The channel was launched on 15 August 2008 which replaced the “Hits” 4 Music is an entertainment and music channel in the United Kingdom.

 

It is available on Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media.

Although as well as it being a music channel it holds events such as T4 on the beach and V – festival, which it covers during the summer.

The channel launched with an on – screen countdown counting down from ten minutes down to zero. During the countdown there are clips of popular music videos which are faded through the screen and then clips from promotions for the channel.
